The Eastern Oyster is an icon synonymous with the health of the Cheasapeake Bay. Our guest speaker will provide an “oysters 101” lecture covering history, biology, and everything you need to know to be the most interesting person at an oyster roast.

About our Presenter:

Jackie is from Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She earned a B.S. in Environmental Science at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Before moving to Virginia, she interned with the North Carolina Coastal Federation and the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries.

Jackie joined the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) oyster team in 2008. She earned a Master of 50 Tons Captains License in 2011 and was promoted to Virginia Oyster Restoration Manager in 2014. In this role, she oversees CBF’s largescale oyster projects in the lower Bay. She and her team work with hundreds of volunteers to transplant millions of oysters annually.

Jackie seres on the 2025 Blue Ribbon Oyster Panel and advises the Virginia Marine Resources Commission on oyster harvest regulations through her appointment as Chairman of the Shellfish Management Advisory Committee. She also works with local, state, and federal partners to develop oyster restoration work plans and policies. Outside of work, she enjoys running, concerts, and spending time with her family and dog in Chesapeake, VA.
