About the Presenter: Greg Siegel’s interest in history was sparked at an early age through his family’s annual summer vacations to historic places throughout the mid-Atlantic and New England states

Born and raised on Grand Island, New York, Greg lived in the midwest before moving to Hampton in 2000.  Greg became fascinated by the rich local history of the area when his first job was managing the Wythe hardware store. where many of his customers would come in and talk about the past.  Greg shares a home with his wife, Kelly, a life-long Hamiltonian in the Indian River Park section of historic Olde Wythe.

Greg served his neighborhood community by serving on the board of the Olde Wythe Neighborhood Association from 2000-2014 including 3 years as the association president. As president, he was the point person for the designation for the Olde Wythe neighborhood to be placed on Virginia Landmark Register in 2008 and the National Register of Historic Places in 2012. In 2012 he was also responsible for working with the city in getting a 25000.00 grant to build the playground in Robinson Park.

Greg was an integral part of the team behind two neighborhood history books  “Hampton’s Olde Wythe”, published in 2006, and  “Historic Olde Wythe: Short Stories from the Past” which he fondly calls it  Wythe history part 2

Greg has been a member of the Hampton Roads Postcard Club for the last 20 plus years.  In 2009, with support of the club, Greg authored the book “Along Hampton’s Waterfront” using over 300 postcard images from members’ collections.  The book took the reader on a historical “walk” through Hampton from the 1890’s though the 1930’s.  Proceeds from the sale of the book goes back to the postcard club.

Greg started the journey of restoring the streetcar 390 in 2013. He is taking time off from the Olde Wythe Neighborhood Association while leading the Streetcar Project.

Greg recently joined the Wythe Exchange Club to continue his service to his community.
